This week we are asked “what are some of your favorite movie adaptations of books? Include trailers or scenes from Youtube if you’d like. Also along with that question, or instead of that question, what book or series would you like to see be made into a movie or movies? Tell us why you think it or they would work as a movie. If the book already has a book trailer, include that, to help make your point.”
Some of my favourite movie adaptations…
1. Pride and Prejudice. This is one of my favourite books and also one of my favourite movies. (I haven’t seen the BBC version of this movie yet, but I plan to.)
2. The Lord of the Rings. This is also one of my favourite books and I think they did a really good job of the movie.
3. The Chronicles of Narnia. This is a trailer for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but I actually liked Prince Caspian a little better.
4. Harry Potter. I’ve loved all of the Harry Potter adaptations. This is a trailer for the newest one, even though I haven’t seen it yet.
5. Stardust. I’m currently reading the book so I can’t really compare yet, but I loved the movie version.
6. Another movie I loved was Chocolat. I read the book after watching the movie and I actually liked the movie a lot better than the book!
7. Horton Hears a Who. I wondered how they were going to turn this book into a full length film, but I think they did a really good job. I’ve always loved the Horton books and I enjoyed the movie a lot.
8. No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. This was made into a TV series (not a movie) that so far only has one, seven episode season (I sure hope they do more) but I loved the book and I thought the TV show was equally good.
As for books I would like to see as movies, I would love to see Artemis Fowl as a movie. Apparently, this is in the works so maybe soon! Another series I like to see as a movie is the Fablehaven series. Those would be really good too.

I agree with you on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe ( I haven’t seen Prince Caspian); the Harry Potters to date; and Horton Hears a Who. I never read any of the LOTR books-couldn’t ever get into them-but I bet I’m going to be seeing those listed a lot!

From your list my favorite adaptation is Stardust. It’s a great book and great film. My list is here.

I agree with almost all of your choices, especially Chocolat which was a beautiful movie. The only one I had problems with was Ladies Detective Agency. I agree it’s a good show in general but I had developed such a strong image in my mind of the characters and the actresses they chose didn’t match.

Great choices! I’m hoping that the Ladies Detective Agency comes to out video store soon, I’d love to see it! The BBC version of Pride and Predjudice is excellent, definitely pursue that.

Stardust and Lord of the Rings are on my list as well. I saw Harry Potter last week, and loved it.

How fun, I chose the BBC mini series for P&P for this week’s topic. Once you’ve seen Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, you’ll never go back.
LOTR would have been my second choice as well.

I loved the Narnia books, but haven’t seen the movies.
Didn’t really enjoy the Harry Potter movies either – found them very commercial.
I really should see Lord of the Rings.

I like the Keira Knightley version of P&P too, but think the BBC one is the definitive adaptation – hope you get a chance to see it.

The BBC version of P&P is still the go-to adaptation (I’m not a fan of the book but even I can admit that the BBC version is probably the best). The recent film adaptation was a bit shoddy, but Joe Wright’s adaptation of Atonement was marvellous.

Completely agree with Stardust. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency: Wife just read all of the series, and I want to do so soon. Have to read them first before even trying to watch the series.

I forgot about so many of these when I put my post together! I also loved the recent Narnia adaptations. I think the casting was spot on, and the changes they made fit well with the stories. And the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series is delightful. I haven’t seen too many episodes myself, but my family are addicts and I sometimes catch it with them.

I love both the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice and Joe Wright’s adaptation. Both are well worth owning and watching repeatedly, although for sheer mood I prefer the Keira Knightley version. I know some people have problems with it, but I find it to be a beautiful film.
Lord of the Rings…don’t get me started, seriously. I could post on those films and books for days and only start to express my love for them.
Stardust is one of my favorite Neil Gaiman books and I am far too attached to it to have ever had a good experience with the movie. While I thought it was fine the first time around I liked it far less the second time around and started getting angry with the changes. But I know enough that I am just very prejudiced about the book and don’t find fault with anyone liking the film.
